Saturday March 13th Paddle

This Saturday we will be meeting at 8:00 AM at Enterprize landing on the Waccamaw river where we will drop vehicles for the return trip to the Savannah Bluff put in. Enterprize Landing is at the end of Enterprize road off highway 707 just south of the highway 544 overpass.

This paddle will be a distance of 14.8 miles and again due to the distance is rated a intermediate paddle for boats at least 14 ft or longer.

Weather forcast currently is for 65 with a 40% chance of showers. Bring your rain gear, water, snack, sun screen and don’t forget your coastguard approved PFD and whistle. You are required to wear you PFD on all Longbay Paddlers club paddles.

Waccamaw River Paddle Saturday February 20

This months paddle will be from highway 130 to highway 904 on the Waccamaw River a distance of 16.2 miles.

Plan to meet at the Exxon station on the corner of highway 905 and 9 in Longs at 8:30 AM. We will depart for the take out point at 9:00 AM and drop vehicles for the return trip to the put in off highway 130.

Due to the distance of this paddle boats 14 feet or longer are required. Water temperatures will be cold so bring a change of clothes in the event of a capsize. Also dress warm, wear something windproof, spraykirts if you have them, snacks and water. The river will be high and fast. We will attempt to make two rest stops if possible. The weather forcast is for showers and 55.

Pee Dee River Paddle

This Sundays paddle (Nov 15) will be on the Pee Dee River at Galivants Ferry. Plan to meet at 1:00 PM in the Exxon Gas/Cafe parking lot just before the bridge on the right side of highway 501. This paddle will be approxmately 10 miles and will require shutteling autos to the put in off higway 904. Kayaks 14 ft, or longer recommended. With the recent heavy rains the current should still be swift and high water that will make it a easy down steam paddle. Bring water and a snack. The weather forcast calls for partly cloudy and 72. This will be the last scheduled paddle of the year. Hope to see a good turn out.

Black River Paddle October 10th

This Saturdays paddle will be on the Black River from Pump House to Pea House landing a distance of 10 miles with a break at about the six mile mark. Plan to meet in Georgetown in the Burger King parking lot at the intersection of Highway 17 and 701 at 8:00 AM. From there we will caravan to the put in site at Pump house landing, unload gear and kayaks and proceed to Pea House landing with sufficient transportation for the return trip. This will be a downstream paddle of a very wild a scenic section of the Black River. Kayaks of 14 feet or longer recommended. Bring water, snack or lunch, sun screen and don’t forget your PFD and whistle.

Annual Club Picnic

Our annual club picnic and surf paddle will be @ Myrtle Beach State Park. Brenda Major has reserved shelter # B-5 for the day. Time will be 1:00 PM although some of us will be there at noon. In addition to your park entry fee we will collect for food and the shelter which usually runs about 7 to 10 dollars per person. Kids eat free unless their teens then it’s double.

Robyn will be picking up wings and a couple side dishes from Sticky Fingers and also making barbecue.

Fran and I will be bring a salad.

I need to know who’s coming and if you can bring a side dish or dessert for 15 to 20.

New Website

There will be some major upheaval on the website side of things for the next few weeks. I have been hosting the website on my personal Internet servers for a few years now and paying for all the associated costs for having a website. However my servers are getting a bit long in the tooth and have had dependability issues over the last year or so. I feel pretty happy with them that they have lasted as long as they have since they have been in continuous service for about eight years. Some of you might remember the website being unavailable for up to a week at one point this past year and for other periods of time this year. This was due to hardware dying in the servers and needing to be replaced. Due to monetary constraints I am at this time actually phasing these servers out of existence and moving all the websites hosted on them to commercial hosts. For the moment I have moved the website to wordpress.org. You can still access the site by going to www.longbaypaddlers.com though. You will find that the new website will have many more capabilities than the old one in the long run as people learn to use it.

I appreciate your patience as we deal with this transition time.
