Sunday’s Little Pee Dee River Paddle
March 30, 2017 by longbaypaddlers
The Long Bay Paddlers are adding an April kayak trip to the calendar this Sunday, April 2. This trip will begin on the Lumber River and merge in to the Little Pee Dee River.
The group will be launching from Rice Field Cove Landing near Hwy 76 and Hwy 9, then paddling 11.5 miles to Sandy Bluff Landing off of Hwy 917.
Kayakers on the north end meet at
9 a.m. at Rice Field Cove Landing. To get to the Rice Field Cove Landing take Hwy 9 until it meets Hwy. 76. Once on 76 drive only about 1,000 feet and turn left on Downing Creek Dr. (before the bridge) and then almost immediately bear right on River Rd. The landing is at the end of the road. 3395 River Rd, Nichols, SC 29581. Location on Google Maps:

Minimum 14 foot closed deck kayaks are recommended. PFDs are required to be worn and you must have a whistle. Bring snacks/lunch, water, sun screen, bug spray, etc. Also have a change of clothes with you IN your kayak in the unlikely event of a capsize.
If you will be going on this paddle please DO NOT REPLY TO THIS EMAIL OR REPLY TO ALL. Instead, email Ursula at spoonispaddling@gmail.com or call/text her at 843-385-7655 so it can be determined how many vehicles to leave at the take out.
We’re not sure what this section of the river has in store for us as we haven’t paddled this stretch before. Ursula is inquiring with DNR about the condition of the river and landings. Another email will be sent out later this week if anything changes. Updates will also be posted on Facebook.
We are also considering adding an additional OPTIONAL five miles to this trip depending on the response she gets from DNR and the Cartwheel Landing condition. If the extra five miles is added you will have the choice to get out at Sandy Bluff or go on to Cartwheel.
See you on the river. Forecast so far for this Sunday in Nichols is mostly sunny with a high of 78.
